Focus – immersion – consistency

At VICI, we make these elements a fundamental part of our teaching strategy to give you a strong foundation for acquiring a second or third language. This foundation will allow you to grow into a new language comfortably, productively, and enjoyably.

All VICI language coaches and trained to teach using the ‘Communicative approach’.
The communicative approach is the theory that language is communication. Therefore the final aim of CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) is communicative competence.

  • Authentic and meaningful communication should be the goal of classroom activities;
  • Fluency is an important dimension of communication;
  • Communication involves the integration of different language skills;
  • Learning is a process of creative construction and involves trial and error.

Nathalie Danon-Kerr, The Director explains:

‘The Communicative Approach has proven to be one of the most successful methods in providing confident learners who are able to make themselves understood in the shortest possible time. This method prioritizes communicative competence over accurate grammar. It is important to remember that as individuals, most of us do not learn a language in order to communicate. First we try to communicate, and in doing so, we learn!’

A language teacher’s main role is to facilitate and monitor rather than lead the class. It should be ’‘the guide by the side’, and not ‘the sage on the stage’.

‘We wanted to let you know how delighted we are with your school. We are incredibly lucky to have had access to this wonderful facility with you and your colleagues’ exemplary teaching’. Herr Heirich

What is the European Framework for Languages?

 Developed through a process of scientific research and wide consultation, The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR) document provides a practical tool for setting clear standards to be attained at successive stages of learning and for evaluating outcomes in an internationally comparable manner. It is the result of extensive research and ongoing work on communicative objectives. It provides a basis for the mutual recognition of language qualifications, thus facilitating educational and occupational mobility.
