As a fluent French speaker, I am keen for my daughter to grow up being bilingual. I read to her in French every night. As for my husband, he can only speak English. Reading “Max et Sacha se disputent” is wonderful because both of us are able to read it and understand it, and it allows Alice to see that there are two distinct languages. Alice really enjoys the story and she asks to read the book over and over again. We are both looking forward to the next one in the series! (My husband is also learning French with this!)
Speaking as a Dad who regrets not doing more with languages at school, I was thrilled to find it was loved by the kids but accessible and relevant to me too. The book is more than a language tool though; it has a delightful story that is beautifully illustrated and simply a joy to read. I would encourage any parent wanting to help their children explore French to invest in this great book.
