How are students supported for six months?
The heart of Starline is the 30-day stay in Europe, however, students will be well prepared for their arrival in Europe with virtual support beginning two months ahead of departure. There will be opportunities for them to get to know their cohort, to set intentions for what they’d like to experience during their time in Europe, and to receive cultural immersion training so they know exactly what to expect while abroad.
Upon returning home, virtual support will continue for an additional three months with our team of trained coaches. Students will not only have the chance to reflect on what they learned about themselves and other cultures, but they will also receive continued assistance toward reaching the life skills goals they identified during their time in Europe.
Where will the students stay?
Students will stay in hotels, chalets, and youth accommodation of a high standard, sharing rooms with their new friends (no more than 2 people to a room).
What will the meals be like?
Local cuisine will be available to students for three meals per day. Breakfast will typically be offered at the student’s lodging. Lunch and dinner will be offered as packed meals or dining out.
Please inform us of any dietary restrictions prior to the departure date. We try our best to accommodate dietary needs but keep in mind eating vegan can be more challenging in European countries.
What is the age requirement to participate?
Starline is open to students aged 15 – 19 years old.
How will I remain in touch with my child?
Parents will receive regular updates via Whatsapp – we will create a group chat to share updates, news and photos of the students’ activities and workshops.
We advise that you inquire with your personal mobile phone carrier to learn how your child can continue service overseas.
Is the program available to students who are not American ?
Yes! Students of all nationalities are welcome to apply. However, visa requirements differ by nationality. You must confirm if a visa is required for entry into the UK and European countries visited during the Starline program and make appropriate arrangements to fulfill those requirements.

Does my child need a visa?
No, a visa is not required for any stay less than three months.
Does my child need a passport?
Yes, American citizens will require a passport to travel. Please ensure the passport expires no less than 6 months after the student’s departure date. It is recommended to also carry a photocopy of the passport in a separate place in case the passport goes missing. It will be much easier to replace with a photocopy handy.

What should my child pack?
Students will be navigating airports, train stations, stairs, escalators, and trains with their luggage. To be efficient, it’s useful to have a piece of luggage on hand that is light weight enough to be carried (duffle or backpack) or a well-functioning suitcase on wheels. Please have a smaller weekend bag available for use on short overnight stays in Germany, Italy & Switzerland. We will provide a packing list for students to plan ahead of their departure.
What will the weather be like?
European summers are typically mild, however hot spells do occur. Keep in mind that air conditioning is not commonly available in Europe. Therefore, it would be helpful to pack lightweight clothes that can be
layered if needed.
Who will accompany the students in Europe?
Starline staff will always be present throughout the students’ journey (1 staff member per 8 students). Parents will be given the contact number of a member of the team who will be accompanying the students, so you can call them with any queries throughout the trip.
What medical and travel insurance is needed?
Our medical insurance will cover any medical costs in-country. However, we require that you purchase travel insurance for any other unforeseen incidents. You will be asked to show proof of travel insurance before the student’s departure.
It is recommended that your policy include coverage for the following:
– Trip cancellation
– Trip interruption
– Lost or stolen baggage
– Accidental death & dismemberment
– Medical evacuation & repatriation of remains
– Non-medical evacuation
– Political or security evacuation & natural disaster evacuation

Are there any scholarships for the program?
We offer partial scholarships based on the student’s financial need and merit. While we do not require parent income tax forms to prove financial need, we do ask that you answer all financial need questions in the scholarship application with integrity. Our goal with offering partial scholarships is to provide this unique educational opportunity to underprivileged and underserved students who may otherwise not be able to participate.
As a guide, scholarships are given to students of families with a household financial experience that includes but is not limited to: unemployment or underemployment, receipt of government assistance (food stamps & healthcare), no access to savings, very little expendable income, unstable or subsidized housing, inability to take time off from work without financial burden.
You will be asked to provide the following for your scholarship application:
1. High school transcript.
2. Two letters of recommendation. One must be from a teacher you’ve known for six months or longer. The second can be from a teacher, school administrator, work supervisor, or other leader in your community whom you’ve known for at least six months.
3. A letter outlining the following:
a. Why you’re a good candidate to receive a scholarship that is based on financial need and merit.
b. The exact dollar amount your family can contribute toward the full program cost.
c. Details of any previous financial assistance you’ve received in the past toward school tuition and any other academic or personal development programs.
d. Any other relevant details to support your financial need.
4. A 500-word essay that describes why you want to participate in the program and how you believe it will benefit your long-term goals.
Scholarship applications are due by March 15.

If the Starline Program is cancelled by Vici Language Academy for any reason prior to departure, you will be refunded 100% of tuition plus deposit.
Transferability: We may allow participants to transfer their enrollment to another accepted applicant (admin cost of USD $75) OR to a future program session (admin cost of USD $175).
How do I register for the program?
All students must first submit an application to register their interest in the program. You can access the application form here.
Upon receipt of the application, each student and their parent(s)/guardian(s) will then have a pre-enrollment meeting with a member of the Starline staff to confirm their interest and determine if Starline is the best fit for them.
Once accepted into the program, a deposit will be required within 10 days (unless you’re applying for one of our financial need scholarships).
When is the application deadline?
Applications are due by May 15. This will ensure ample time for students to participate in the first support session held at the end of May. If by chance spots are still available beyond the 15th, students may apply up until the end of June. In that case, those students will have a separate pre-departure call with one of our team members.
