They say time flies when you’re having fun and here at the VICI Language Academy we always aim to make learning fun and just last week we had what must be our most lovely comment about this!
We had a little boy who was already bilingual (his Dad is French and his Mum is English) come along to try out lessons and on his third day when he was collected by his Mum, he was bursting to tell her something… He said:
“Mum, I think there is a problem with the clocks at VICI… Madame Danon-Kerr said that the lesson would be for an hour but it was more like 10 minutes. I checked all the clocks but it is said that an hour ago had passed… it’s very strange mummy, isn’t it?’
Bless! We often get that reaction; surprise that a lesson has ended already. However, that comment has to be the absolute favourite.
It actually has a name – the concept of time flying when you are having fun is known as ‘flow’ and is neatly explained by Wikipedia as ‘the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterised by complete absorption in what one does.’
Or time flies when you are having fun!
So absolutely we are having fun at VICI, but make no mistake, where there is fun there is learning and there is ample evidence that flow is actually best achieved when those learning are actually challenged to excel.
