Learning a language is such a rewarding experience and can add so much pleasure to your travel and various cultural experiences; but, despite all our best intentions the road to bilingualism is paved with distractions.
I often use an analogy between learning a language and going to the gym: we know how important our health is and may join the gym with the best of intentions; however it takes real commitment to keep going, not to mention all those fit people can put you off. It is easy to make excuses and before you know it you are back on the couch watching your waist expand with your guilt!
How much better it would be if you had solid, step-by-step advice on how to get the most from your gym membership? Learning a language is much the same – imagine how satisfying it would be if someone looked after you and showed you the logical steps to learn a foreign language, and learn it well? We cannot help you at the gym, but we can improve your mental agility.
Now you can understand how to develop a truly effective study plan so you are practising FrenchSpanishItalian, German or Portuguese, progressing steadily, yet having fun doing so!
- Work out how best you learn a language: is it by reading, listening or writing?
- Put a plan into action with set objectives, listed topics and assessment criteria
Think how buff you would be now if such a personal approach had been supporting you at the gym?
